Investigation into gas release

NO GAS: A Unigas worker was filmed releasing gas from a tanker at Perry's service station on the highway in late April, causing concern for customers at the time.

THE release of residual liquid in the pipework of an Elgas tank at a Mount Gambier service station has resulted in an internal investigation.

A video was recorded on April 30 by a customer at Perry’s service station which was then posted on social media and showed a person releasing what was assumed to be gas from the Elgas tank at the site.

According to an Elgas statement, the company was aware of the “small release” from the LPG tank which was being decommissioned at the service station.

“The controlled release of residual liquid in the pipework resulted in a visible cloud of frozen water vapor near a maintenance worker,” the spokesperson said.

“The worker was unharmed and there were no other injuries as a result of this release.”

The spokesperson said the incident had been reported to the Environmental Protection Agency as well as SafeWork SA.

“Elgas has also launched an investigation into the incident,” they said.
