DESPITE living five hours from Mount Gambier, previous resident and singer-songwriter Jessica Braithwaite still calls the Blue Lake City home.
Moving to Adelaide to pursue her dreams, Ms Braithwaite has now succeeded in releasing two singles onto streaming platforms for the world to hear.
Her first single – Feel This Way – debuted in the top 200 iTunes Australia charts and made international headlines in Britain and the United States.
Now, her recent single Who You Know, has music enthusiasts overjoyed at the catchy tune.
“The song is a more positive take on the ‘it is not what you know but who you know’ phrase and is about that gratitude for the people in your life,” Mr Braithwaite said.
“It is also gratitude about who we know that helps us through the tough times and make our lives what we are and just about celebrating that.”
She said despite beginning music later in life, it had always been a critical part of her childhood.
“I never picked up a guitar until I was in college and I would knock around on it with my brother,” Ms Braithwaite said.
“We would print out a chord chart and play each chord and circle those we liked.”
Ms Braithwaite said it was a fantastic feeling to achieve two released singles despite being nervous beforehand.
“Musicians put so much effort into a release and this song is three years in the making and it is nerve wracking to release songs because I don’t want my worth to be determined by others but I can’t help but care about what people think,” she said.
“So far I have had so many amazing comments from people and it is incredible that I can log in on streaming services and see when people are listening.
“I just love the idea of people doing that and my music bringing joy to them.”
As for the future, Ms Braithwaite said a Christmas single is in the works, due to be released later this year.
