Wattle Range welcomes new councillor

NEW FACE: Wattle Range councillor-elect Chris Brodie attended this week's monthly meeting from the public gallery. He will undertake mandatory councillor induction training before he is sworn in next month.

WATTLE Range Council welcomed its newest councillor-elect this week, with local viticulturist and community volunteer Chris Brodie sitting his first monthly meeting in Millicent.

The Penola resident was elected as the Riddoch Ward representative unopposed following the sudden resignation of Rick Paltridge in August.

Mr Brodie – who was sitting in the public gallery – will complete mandatory councillor induction before he is sworn in before the November monthly meeting.

The retied viticulturist is known within the community for his extensive volunteer work at the Penola War Memorial Hospital garden and his involvement with the Penola National Trust branch.

He has also served on the Penola Primary School’s governing council and volunteered with the town’s little athletics, swimming and netball.

“My wife and I have lived in Penola for 21 years and we have done pretty well, it is a great community and putting my hand up for this seemed to be a good way to giving back to the community,” Mr Brodie said.

“Generally, I think the council these days have been doing quite a reasonably job and I look forward to doing whatever I can do to help them and put across the voices of people from Penola and neighbouring towns.”
