Police not investigating possible ‘bubble’ breach

SOUTH Australia Police (SAPOL) has confirmed that it is not investigating any possible border bubble breach that caused harsh Covid-19 restrictions on businesses and people living in the Lower South East last week.

Restrictions were put in place following an incident where a Mount Gambier woman tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from Victoria.

She claimed she had been in Casterton but the town’s hospital chief executive said in a staff email that she had not contracted the disease in Casterton and that she has travelled to Melbourne.

He also said her claims were a ‘non-truth’ in order to allow her to return to South Australia.

The Border Watch directed a range of questions in relation to the incident to SA Police Commissioner Grant Stevens.

The Commissioner did not respond to the questions but a police spokesperson said:

“This is a matter for SA Health who has been dealing directly with the woman and her family with the contact tracing team.

“SAPOL has no further comment to make in this matter.”
