Labor Party opens pop-up campaign office in city

AS part of the Labor Party’s campaign for the Federal seat of Barker, Australian Labor Party state secretary Reggie Martin has opened South Australia’s first pop-up campaign office in Mount Gambier.

Labor candidate for Barker Mat O’Brien will use the Gray Street office as his base of operations while campaigning in the region.

Senate candidates Marielle Smith and Emily Gore will also campaign in Mount Gambier in coming weeks.

Mr Martin said the office was the first of its kind in South Australia and would allow community members to drop in and learn about Labor’s plans for the Limestone Coast.

“We have a really good candidate in Mat O’Brien, but the size of the electorate of Barker is just so huge that he cannot be everywhere at once,” Mr Martin said.

“He is Murray Bridge-based, but he is travelling around the electorate and will come down in a couple of weeks time to spend a week out here.

“We thought it was a good opportunity to set up an office here for the Federal election campaign to give people an opportunity to come and learn about the Labor Party and ask some questions.”

Mr Martin said the upcoming election offered an opportunity for Australia to be governed without “chaos and instability”.

“It is a really important election and a really big opportunity for us to change the way things happen federally,” he said.

State Labor parliamentarian Clare Scriven said she was “delighted” to see the party launch its pop-up office campaign in Mount Gambier.

“It is great to see the ALP increasing its focus on regional South Australia,” she said.

Labor plans to open pop-up offices across regional South Australia on a regular basis, with further pop-up offices in Murray Bridge and Port Augusta being organised for later in the year.

The office is located at 38 Gray Street, Mount Gambier.
