Airport power outage

THE Mount Gambier Airport terminal was without power for around two hours today due to an undetermined fault.

Electricity at the terminal was cut off at 8.43am and restored by SA Power Networks maintenance crews at 11.30am.

Airport manager Ian Fritsch said the outage did not affect operations on the tarmac.

“We have a small backup generator for runway lights so it did not affect us too much,” he told The Border Watch.

“It was more annoying for Rex, the staff had to hand write tickets so it really slowed their process down.

“Part of our upgrade plans include replacing the generator with one large enough to power the terminal as well.”

SA Power Networks spokesperson Paul Roberts said there was “no cause found” for the fault, however fuses were “responding as they should”.

“Around 250 customers were affected,” Mr Roberts said.

“High voltage fuses responded to a fault somewhere on the line, however we were unable to locate the fault.

“The maintenance team replaced the fuses and restored power to customers at 11.30am.”
