Health chair appointed

FORMER Regional Development Australia Limestone Coast chief executive Grant King has been appointed chair of the South East Local Health Network.

Under a State Government restructure, SA Health will establish 10 local health networks, each with its own governing board.

The reforms aim to decentralise the public health system and return responsibility and accountability at the local level.

Each board will control the health budget for its area of responsibility, appoint and manage its chief executive and actively engage with communities and front-line health professionals.

The networks will be operational from July 1 next year, while governing board chairs will act in an advisory capacity until then.

Mr King is an experienced board chair and chief executive who has worked for both profit and not-for-profit organisations.

Since 1994 he has worked in regional economic and community development and has held positions on a number of government boards and advisory bodies.

He has been a member of the Premier’s Regional Development Taskforce, a board member of the Greater Green Triangle University Department of Rural Health and chair of the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service and the Mount Gambier Hospital.

Mr King has strong business acumen with strengths in governance, administration and financial management.
