Singe appointed as new Grant District chief executive

GRANT District Council has appointed a new chief executive officer following an extensive recruitment process.

David Singe – who has worked across four states in various fields – will start the role early next month.

The appointment follows the resignation of former chief executive officer Trevor Smart, who has taken up a similar position at the Naracoorte-Lucindale Council.

Mr Singe has worked in economic development, planning and health in roles including chief executive officer, board member and board chair.

His current role is serving as board chair of the non-profit Wheatbelt Health Network in Western Australia.

Mr Singe has worked for the Wheatbelt Development Commission, Western Australian Department of Planning, Department of Regional Development and North West (WA), Maryborough Regional Development Board and the City of Broken Hill.

The executive has also been an independent consultant to Regional Development Australia Perth and other organisations.

In a statement released yesterday, Mr Singe said he was pleased with his appointment.

“The council has a great sense of stability and achievement, with plenty of opportunities for the future,” Mr Singe said.

He said he was impressed by the teamwork and engagement of the mayor and councillors during the recruitment process and looked forward to working with the staff and council, as well as becoming part of the community.

“I am confident that my career in regional development along with my experience as a chief executive officer will contribute to the future of the council,” Mr Singe said.

“The council has significant agricultural, tourism and other potentials and enjoys the advantages of operating a regional airport and providing services within the surrounds of South Australia’s largest regional city.”

Grant District Mayor Richard Sage said Mr Singe’s appointment capped off a thorough recruitment process involving a large and high-quality field of candidates.

“Council is looking forward to Mr Singe starting. He has a wealth of experience in regional areas and issues. He has demonstrated his affinity for the challenges and opportunities we face in the regions,” Mr Sage said.

He said the council was confident of building upon its achievements under Mr Singe’s leadership.

“We have a busy agenda ahead of us and are looking forward to our new chief executive officer taking the reins.”
