Suspicious bin fire near Mount Gambier house

A SUSPICIOUS fire lit in a wheelie bin in front of a home was extinguished by the Mount Gambier Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) yesterday before it was able to spread into the premises.

The MFS was alerted to the blaze on Howard Street by passersby at around 1pm and attended to find a fire in a 200 litre wheelie bin against a house.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze with one high pressure line and then gained access to the house.

They ventilated the premises and made sure the fire had not spread into the home.

“The only damage to the premises was to the paint and at this stage it has been undetermined how the blaze began,” acting station officer Matt Williamson said.
