AFTER 20 years of drought, Edenhope’s Lake Wallace is thriving once again and will this weekend host a fishing competition.
A celebratory event for the return of water to the once bare lake, the event is expected to attract anglers from as far away as New South Wales as they compete to catch the biggest and best fish.
Now home to redfin and rainbow and brown trout, Edenhope Fishing Competition committee member Kalla Colgate said the lake is looking “amazing”.
“Over the past year Fisheries has released a whole heap of fish into the lake, they are growing really well and thriving in the lake,” she said.
“We have had even more rain over the last couple of months, which has really boosted the water level as well – everyone in the town is very excited.”
With around 700 anglers expected to travel to the Victorian town this weekend, a limited number of camping sites have been made available around the lake for easy fishing access.
A range of prizes will also be up for grabs in open and junior categories, including a fridge, kayak and a tackle box.
“We are expecting it to go really well with many people from interstate already signed up to take part,” Ms Colgate said.
“Registrations will also be open on the day, so make sure you get in quick and don’t miss out.”
The Edenhope Fishing Competition will take place on November 4 and 5 at Lake Wallace in Edenhope.
