Junior golf talent comes of age

Junior reigns supreme

SATURDAY at the Blue Lake Golf Links, 11-year-old left hander Callum Harvey came of age and claimed his maiden overall win with an excellent round of 43 points in a field of 82 players.

In A Grade it was long-hitting Marc Dalton finishing with 39 points to defeat Josh Gale, who claimed second place on a count-back with 37 to edge out his dad Roger Gale.

Club veteran John Millhouse won B Grade with a fine round of 42 points from an unlucky Richard Evans, who lost on a count-back.

Fred Knight was four shots back in third place, also on a count-back as he collected 38 points for his round.

Yet another count-back was required in C Grade and it was David Johnston claiming a win with 37 points from life member Gavin Sparrow, also on 37 and rounding out the placings, also on 37, was Aaron O’Donnell.

Ball run down winners were Russell Lingham 38, Tony Boroks 37, David Grigsby 37, John Kamp 37, Niki Collins 37, Stephen Von Duve 36, Trevor Callis 36, Cyril Price 36, David McKenzie 36 and Gordon Parry 35 c/b.

Nearest the pin in A Grade went to Stephen Smith, in B Grade Frank Pinneri and in C Grade Richard Kuhn.

The pro-shot on the fifth hole went to David Goldspring, who claimed four balls.

Women’s results: Geraldine Scott 37 points; Lyn Annand 33.

Best back nine: Geraldine Scott.

The hole-in-one cash jackpot is now $1000.

Tuesday competition

A BIG field turned out for the mid-week competition and it was Terry Earl leading from the front with a superb round of golf, as he carded a nett 62 to narrowly edge out an unlucky Russell Lingham, who was one shot back on 63.

Rounding out the placings was Col Tester in a close call with a round of 65.

Ball run down winners were David Johnston 66, Xavier Taylor 67, Brian Vawser 67, John Kamp 67, David Goldspring 68, Trevor McLean 68 and Colin Rex 68.

The pro-shot on the par 3 fifth hole was taken out by David Johnston, who collected four balls for his nearest the pin.

The hole-in-one voucher jackpot is now $1059.

Wednesday daylight savings competition

NUMBERS were back in full force Wednesday for the daylight savings competition and a count-back was required to separate the winners.

Evan McKee and Trevor Little led the way with 21 points, but it was McKee claiming the overall prize with a strong finish.

The shot-of-the-day came from Trevor McLean, who drove his ball just short of the first green and chipped his second shot into the hole to clean out the eagle’s nest and collect $99 cash.

Results: Evan McKee 21 points c/b; Trevor Little 21 c/b; Steve Bell 20.

Sean Pudney claimed the pro-shot on the second hole and Shane Fenwick took the honours on the fifth, with the pair collecting six balls each.

The eagle cash jackpot starts again.

Tee times for week four of the competition are available before 8am or after 9:30am until dark.

Thursday nine-hole results: Noel Gosden 19 points c/b; Allen Cameron 19 c/b; V. J. Smith 19 c/b.

Friday competition: Trevor Finnis 29 nett; Brayden Lane 31 c/b; Matt Feast 31 c/b.

Putts: Yogi Anderson 15 putts c/b.

Sunday stableford: David Lamont 43 points; Jason Knight 40; Tyson Ploenges 38.

Holden scramble

THIS Sunday the Blue Lake Golf Club will host it’s 12th annual Holden Scramble.

Teams of four are being called for the ambrose competition, with a chance to win through to the state final in the new year and then the national final at the Sunshine Coast.

Teams are asked to register on line at holdenscramble.com.au.

Registration on Sunday will be at 10am followed by an 11am shotgun start.

Over $2,000 worth of prizes can be won on the day, with prizes from first to 10th place.

At the time of print 22 teams had entered, which promises to be a great day out for all involved.

Included in entry fee will be a sausage sizzle and a sit down meal after play, along with long drives and nearest-the-pins, plus Holden girls to serve you refreshments.
