POTENTIAL buyers have been given extra time to lodge expressions of interest for Wattle Range Council’s Millicent service station site.
The original deadline to submit expressions of interest had been July 1, but has been extended to July 15.
“This will allow the registrants additional time to submit their applications,” council deputy chief executive Paul Duka said.
“As the process is continuing, I’m not able to discuss specifics around the number of registrants at this stage.”
The current 20-year lease expires in 2021.
Council received an offer last year from a Mount Gambier company to buy the freehold of the Adelaide Road site, which has been owned by local government since 1958.
The matter was debated at length at the February monthly council meeting when councillor John Drew suggested the service station could fetch as much as $1m.
Cr Drew said the premises earned council $115,000 in lease fees each year.
At the conclusion of the 30-minute debate, council voted to seek expressions of interest for the sale of the freehold.
