Head shave raises foundation funds

BEING BRAVE: Bronte Cox braves the shave as he rids eight years worth of dreads.

THE Prince of Wales Hotel packed out earlier this month in support of Penola tattooist Bronte Cox as shaved eight years worth of dreadlocks off in the name of charity.

Mr Cox raised $7300 for the Leukemia Foundation through a combined effort of donations, auctions and raffles, with strong support flowing from the community.

“It was a great night with an awesome response from the community,” Mr Cox said.

“We want to thank all businesses who helped us and everyone who attended.”

Originally hoping to raise $1000, Mr Cox hit his target early and led him to increase his goal by another $1000.

Participating in the event to help those suffering or caring for someone affected by the disease, Mr Cox was inspired to hold a fundraiser due to a close personal connection.

“A friend’s son was diagnosed with leukemia when he was very young,” Mr Cox said.

“Now he is around 20 years old and is as much a true hero as others who understand the fight and struggle of this horrible disease.

“He is also only one of many people I have heard of – either through my career – or in conversations with others who have suffered.”
