SPLASH OF COLOUR: Mount Gambier resident Phil Riley poses in front of Jeremy Ievins’ latest mural, encouraging the community to remain upbeat during the coronavirus pandemic.

A COLOURFUL message of positivity has appeared in Mount Gambier this week, encouraging the community to remain optimistic during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The timely reminder is the work of Limestone Coast artist Jeremy Ievins and now adorns a prime spot on Mount Gambier Central’s exterior.

It is the first in a series of murals Mr Ievins will produce, filled with uplifting messages for the community.

“There has not been a mural like this here in Mount Gambier for a while,” Mr Ievins said.

“It was something I wanted to do for a while and considering the virus has had the community down lately I wanted to do something positive.

“I wanted to put some positivity back into the community and brighten up the area and it is fantastic Mount Gambier Central offered me a wall to work on.”

Excited to continue the initiative, Mr Ievins hoped other businesses could offer wall space to be used as a canvas.

“If businesses have any walls that are in a really good position with enough space that people can get back and get a photograph then I am happy to do it,” he said.

Mount Gambier Central manager Jane Read said the shopping centre was grateful for Mr Ievins to provide his skills.

“It is a really positive message for the community and especially in a time in need,” Ms Read said.

“We all look forward to seeing the photographs of our visitors shared to social media.”
