Winning Team Rymill House Leaders Mia, Finn, Nellie And Ben TBW Newsgroup
WINNING TEAM: Team Rymill’s house leaders Mia, Finn, Nellie and Ben celebrate the days achievements.

RYMILL swam to success in the final event of the day at the recent Penola Primary School annual swimming carnival in front of a large crowd.

The team finished the event with 106 points to head its rivals and secure the coveted Apex Swimming Shield for the first time since 2012.

Gordon was just behind on 100 points, followed by Dickson with 78 and Woods on 64.

The Year 3-7 students demonstrated their skills in freestyle, breastroke and backstroke along with a variety of novelty events including the under and over relay, the rope rescue race, dress the captain and horse and jockey.

Events were tailored to cater for swimmers of all abilities, with children encouraged to have a go at as many races as possible.

Rosie Moorhouse was crowned Senior Girls Champion after finishing on 14 points, two ahead of her colleague, Asha Messenger.

Jack Sharman scored 15 points to take out the Senior Boys’ Champion title, with Marcus Brand finishing runner-up on 12.

It was back-to-back titles for Sharman and he also set a new record in the freestyle, with an impressive 19.63 seconds, which eclipsed Jake Klemm’s 2017 record time by 0.12 seconds.

Harrison DeGaris again proved too strong in the Junior Boys division, finishing with the maximum 15 points while Luc Baverstock was runner-up with 11.

The Junior Girls’ division was taken out by Matilda Marlow who scored 13 points, just two and a half points ahead of Ella Skeer.

As the final event of the day arrived – the Open House Relay – Rymill held a narrow two-point lead over Gordon.

The second-place finish was enough to secure the overall.
