Nick Headspace New Years Party TBW Newsgroup
CHEERS TO A NEW YEAR: Headspace Mount Gambier community liaison worker Nick McInerney invites anyone aged 12 to 25 to headspace’s new year party held next Wednesday from 11am to 2pm with a range of activities available for free. The event will be held in the Mount Gambier City Hall and Cave Gardens.

LIMESTONE Coast youths can start 2020 in style next week as headspace Mount Gambier hosts its new year holiday party.

The inaugural event will provide a smorgasbord of entertainment for youths, targetting those aged 12 to 25, while also celebrating the start of the new year through a range of fun activities.

headspace Mount Gambier community liaison worker Nick McInerney said the event would provide a unique and fun experience during the holiday period.

“During the school holidays and over the long Christmas break, it is a time when people can feel like there is not much happening,” Ms McInerney said.

“School holidays have been going for around four to five weeks now so younger people may be running out of things to do.”

Mr McInerney said many activities on the day involved goal-setting and constructive ways to enter the new year.

“Hopefully people will learn and take something away from it,” he said.

“We are hoping to target a bigger group of people and create a social event that individuals can look forward to with friends.

“If it works and we can get the results we are hoping for, we will definitely continue to build on the event and make it bigger and better.”

Partnering with Mount Gambier City Council, Mr McInerney said there would be virtual reality activities available on the day as well as an obstacle course provided by Freaky Fit, craft activities, community presentations, food and drinks provided and a number of live entertainment performances.

“We are all about empowering youth and supporting things which young people in the community are striving to achieve,” he said.

“These activities are also in line with headspace’s Tips for a Healthy Headspace including getting into life, exercising, trying new things and learning new ways to handle tough times.

“Maybe somebody might come along who may have not necessarily thought about dance before, will see a performance and may reconsider giving it a go.”

The free party will be held Tuesday in the Mount Gambier City Hall and Cave Gardens from 11am to 2pm.

headspace is also offering weekly group walking on Friday afternoons during the school holidays from 2pm to 3pm with each walk set in a different location.
