A MILLICENT business is asking its customers and the wider community to support its appeal for the victims of the ongoing fires throughout Australia.

Millicent Newsagency recently placed two large containers in its Glen Street premises, with one collecting donations for general bushfire relief, while the other supports the efforts of the RSPCA.

Furthermore, 50 cents from each cup of coffee sold at Millicent Newsagency will be donated to bushfire relief efforts.

Millicent newsagent Paul Smith said Limestone Coast residents were aware of this type of devastation by fire, with many having been through Ash Wednesday almost 37 years ago.

“Some of our customers came into the shop on Friday and said the smell of smoke took them back to Ash Wednesday in 1983,” Mr Smith said.

The Ash Wednesday fires were widespread throughout South Australia and Victoria and claimed 75 lives.

Mr Smith and his wife Barb have been commended and supported by customer Margaret Hales.

“It is doing good for others and for those who have lost so much,” Ms Hales said.

“I commend the efforts of the RSPCA, which cares for the animals who have suffered.”
