Community Club price slashed

THE asking price of the closed Millicent and District Community Club has been slashed by almost 10pc.

The Davenport Street premises have been listed for sale since December with a Mount Gambier firm with a GST-exclusive asking price of $450,000.

This has recently been cut by $40,000 to $410,000.

Meanwhile, the contents will be sold at a public auction on-site at 10.30am on November 7.

The clearing sale will be staged by an Adelaide firm which specialises in such events.

Among the goods listed for sale are pool tables, leather armchairs, glassware and stores.

There is a 1945-era table tennis table among the 212 lots.

The doors closed on the debt-laden facility almost 14 months ago after almost 54 years of continuous trading.

The affairs of the Community Club have since been controlled by its liquidator David Kidman who is an Adelaide-based insolvency specialist with KPMG.

He has been approached for comment.

The major creditor of the Community Club is Wattle Range Council which is owed more than $200,000 in rates and outstanding loans.

Council is continuing to meet maintenance costs of the building such as insurance and lighting and it is promoting the November 7 clearing sale.
