A RECORD number of exhibitors will make this year’s Empak Homes BrickGambier the biggest and best yet.

With numbers jumping from 15 to over 50, founder and organiser Emma Robinson said the increase was due to past event success.

Ms Robinson said the event had slowly grown since being established in 2017 to become the biggest regional Lego fan event in South Australia.

“I think BrickGambier is just a good family event where people of all ages can have fun,” she said.

“The event is unique as almost all of the exhibitors are over the age of 18 and it has become an avenue to view Lego models which would only be available in Melbourne or Adelaide.

“We often have people surprised because they assumed the event would be kids who had built Lego but it is not that at all.”

Ms Robinson said there would be some show-stopping displays open to the public.

“There will be award-winning exhibitors as well as Lego Masters finalists Jordan Hocking and Miller Keys, along with fellow season one contestant Kale Frost,” she said.

“Adelaide brothers Drew and Reece Harrison will showcase their Star Wars-themed display The Empire over Jedha, which has to be seen to be believed.

“There will also be a glow in the dark display which is the first I have seen at the Mount Gambier event.”

Ms Robinson said there would also be challenges and activities for visitors, as well as Lego to build with.

With exhibitor numbers increasing, Ms Robinson said the event would be of economic benefit to the city.

“South East exhibitor numbers have remained the same but visitor numbers have increased,” she said.

“We have had people message and email us looking for ideas on what to do in Mount Gambier.

“Other than me socialising at other events, I think the exhibitors which came from away last year enjoyed themselves so much they are coming back and have told others too.”

Ms Robinson hopes to exceed last year’s audience of around 1500.

“Exhibitors make sure they display something new each year to keep people wanting to come back,” she said.

“I view all our exhibitors and volunteers as special guests as without them we do not have an event.

“I thank the many people from the Limestone Coast Lego Users Group and Southern Bricks Lego Users Group that have helped assist in the organising and running of the event.”

The event is being held at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds on October 6 and 7 from 10am to 5pm.

A sensory friendly session will be held on October 7 from 9am to 10am.

Tickets are $7 for a single entry and $20 for a family ticket with Eftpos facilities available.
