THE Penola Bowling Club men’s championship singles were played across the weekend with two rounds played on Saturday followed by the finals played on Sunday.

A number of tight contests were fought across the competition which saw Ken Batt and Paul Weir progress to the anticipated final.

Weir got off to a fast start to take the early lead in Sunday’s final before Batt began to fight back.

Batt caught Weir and did not look back as Batt extended his advantage.

Batt held the lead until the end and won the Penola Bowling Club men’s championship singles for the 2018/19 season.

After the game Brian Larkin was presented his 90 years of Age Certificate by president Batt.

Margaret Hanel spoke about Brian’s achievements and the work he has done at the club.

Social bowl’s were played on Wednesday and the winners were Peter Starick and Norm Vaughan.

Tomorrow the Penola Bowling Club will host the men’s cosmopolitan four’s competition before the last day of the Men’s Championship and four’s will be Saturday.

The women championship singles will be played Wednesday, January 23.
