Surprise start to the year as parents enjoy an early arrival

SPECIAL GIFT: Naracoorte residents Dillon Prentice and Jess Pridmore welcomed Lily Sofia Prentice into the world yesterday. She was the first baby born in Mount Gambier for 2019.

A BUNDLE of joy was welcomed into the world yesterday as Naracoorte residents Jess Pridmore and Dillon Prentice brought Lily Sofia Prentice into the world as the first baby to be born in Mount Gambier for 2019.

The couple said they were looking forward to spending time with their “little miracle”.

“It was a very big surprise to have a child on the first day of the year,” Mr Prentice told The Border Watch yesterday.

“We were at a New Year’s Eve get-together when the water broke.

“We were just casually enjoying a barbecue at a friend’s house when it happened.”

Lily was born at 9.15am yesterday, weighing 2900g and measuring 47cm in length at birth.

The predicted arrival date was January 11 so it was a “wonderful surprise” for the couple to meet Lily 10 days early.

“We did not know the gender so we had both a boy’s and girl’s first name chosen,” Ms Pridmore said.

“Although we just decided on a middle name then as we had a list to choose from.”

The proud parents believe Lily will enjoy her birthday falling on the first day of the year.

“She will hopefully never have to work on her birthday,” Mr Prentice said.

“She will also be able to celebrate a party the night before her birthday and on her birthday as well.”
