LOBSTER will be an expensive treat at Christmas going by the “beach” (wholesale) price paid to fishers at Beachport last weekend which was $86 per kilogram.
The price at Beachport has fluctuated between $78 and $122 per kilogram since the 2018/19 season began on October 1.
Beachport is home to almost 20 boats and some skippers are choosing not to fish if the price is low.
However, two licence holders have already caught their allocated quota.
Some Adelaide retailers are charging well over $100 per kilogram for the delicacy.
