A SPECIAL group of visitors recently graced the halls of the National Trust Living History Millicent Museum.

Former Millicent resident Mary Harris, wife of the late Dr David Harris OAM, explored the sprawling facility last week.

Ms Harris lived in Millicent for about 45 years from 1952 when Dr Harris was a renowned GP and community worker.

Dr Harris founded the National Trust Millicent branch in 1961 and served as president until his death in 1996.

He was the driving force behind establishment of the museum in Millicent’s 1870s era school buildings.

A memorial plaque and photograph of Dr Harris was recently installed in the Millicent room.

His other community interests included the St John Ambulance, Millicent and District Community Club and the South East Cultural Arts Trust and he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia.

Ms Harris was joined by granddaughter Jessica Hargraves and her husband, along with great-granddaugher Chloe.

She praised the museum volunteers for the impressive displays.
