Lioness Club at full force

LIONESS FEAST: Members of the Mount Gambier Lioness Club members attended a Melbourne Cup Day luncheon this month.

AS WARMER weather makes a welcome return, the Mount Gambier Lioness Club has also returned to full force.

The club’s “grey nomads” have returned from winter escapes in northern Australia, including a few members who attended the Lions convention in Darwin as part of their holiday.

Several members joined Mount Gambier City Council staff in assembling and decorating the giant Christmas tree displayed in front of the Old Town Hall this month.

Despite persistent rain, the Lionesses involved endeavoured to make the job fun.

The club has started to sell tickets for its annual Christmas raffle and will wrap presents next month at Mount Gambier Central to lighten the load for busy Christmas shoppers.

At its October dinner meeting, the club welcomed four new members, inducted by zone chairman Peter Pignotti.

“With all service clubs struggling to build their membership, they are very welcome additions,” treasurer Lyn Fulton said.

“As they come from diverse backgrounds, we look forward to what their unique talents will bring to our group.”

Beryl and Ivan Mahoney – both past presidents of the Lioness and Lions clubs respectively – hosted a Melbourne Cup day luncheon at their home.

A lovely meal, fun and fellowship were enjoyed by all in attendance, while Rosemary Carter won the fashions on the field prize.
