THE Borderline Speedway will roar back into action tomorrow night for the first sprintcar event of the season.

The SRA series will be well supported by the South Australian Super Sedans Championship – a re-run of last season’s rained-out title.

Both categories offer plenty for Limestone Coast fans to enjoy, with Penola’s Dave Gartner chasing his fourth straight SA title in the Super Sedans.

The sprintcar field sees 46 nominations, with several drivers from the region.

Steve Lines would no doubt be the headline act for Mount Gambier.

Lines is again driving for the Queensland-based Horrell Motorsports team in the Q83 and with main event wins already at Avalon and Toowoomba, all looks on track for another good season.

However, fellow Limestone Coast driver Glen Sutherland has also seen plenty of action in his distinctive green and black S20 machine and has also signed up for the World Series Sprintcars season as a contracted driver.

He will certainly look to impress in front of the home crowd and look for a good result before the WSS kicking off.

Rory Button is another to watch, with his S57 car popular in the region.

But those “local” drivers will have a huge task ahead, with competitors from around the country converging on the clay oval, keen to make the most of the night.

Queensland’s Lachie McHugh would be one of the pre-race favourites, with a couple of main events up at Archerfield under his belt, as well as a sixth place finish at last seasons Australian Titles at the Borderline Speedway.

Warrnambool’s Jye O’Keeffe has managed a third and fourth place in two of the past three weekends, while current Grand Annual Classic champion Corey McCullagh will certainly be on the pace.

Rusty Hickman is fresh from a fifth place in the Victorian title at Warrnambool last weekend, with a host of others sure to make for an entertaining night of racing.

For the Super Sedans Gartner will be a “local” favourite, but will also have a huge challenge, with Ryan Alexander showing his pace for the feature win just two weeks ago at the Borderline Speedway.

Victoria’s Lucas Roberts, Mick Nicola, Peter Nicola, Mick Nicola Jr and veteran Lionel West, will all make the journey across the border, while the rejuvenated SA brigade will be keen to keep the crown in the home state.

Kym Jury has improved over the past 12 months and will be one to watch, while other SA drivers include Paul Blenkiron, Trevor Ware, Stephen Schwarz and Kym Leyson.

Limited Sporstmen are also set as a support category.

Gates open at 4pm, with racing from 6pm.
