POLICE are probing security camera footage of an armed robbery by two men at the Caltex Millicent service station at Billygoat Corner at 5.30am on Sunday.

The men were armed with a knife and stole the cash till.

No one was injured during the incident.

The men are described as Caucasian and were wearing dark clothes, balaclavas and gloves.

It is understood the men left the premises in a vehicle and travelled north along Williams Road.

Uniformed police from Millicent and Mount Gambier and Millicent CIB have searched the immediate area and are yet to find the knife or any other physical evidence.

Later on Sunday morning, police impounded a presumably abandoned vehicle which was found in Dean Street, Millicent.

The early-model Holden Barina did not have any front or rear number plates.

A Mount Gambier-based specialist crime scene examiner came to the scene and the vehicle was taken away via a trailer for further examination.

Officers are examining a possible link between the vehicle and the armed robbery 800 metres away at the service station.

Millicent police acting officer-in-charge Rick Errington said the vehicle was forensically examined yesterday.

“We are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry about the armed robbery,” he said.

The service station is Millicent’s sole staffed 24-hour business and it reopened for usual trading at 9am on Sunday.

K&S Millicent depot manager Mark Hodgens and regional manager Peter Sims were contacted for comment by The Border Watch but both declined citing company policy.

People with any information about the armed robbery are asked to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
