Foundation students settle into school

LEARNING: Foundation student Mitchell takes part in a craft activity during his second week at school.

IT is all smiles for foundation students at Mulga Street Primary School as they settle in to their second week in the new learning environment.

Making the first big step into primary school last week, the 45 students are progressing in leaps and bounds as they make new friends and begin to build skills in all areas.

From French classes and computing lessons to English and art, it has been a busy start to the year for the eager little learners.

Following in the footsteps of his two older siblings, Mitchell was excited to begin his schooling journey last week.

“I like playing on the playground and learning French and know how to say ‘bonjour’,” he said.

“We have two friends, Emily the Emu and Karla the Kangaroo, in the class as well.”

Meanwhile, fellow student Matilda has learnt how to write her own name and is quickly developing her understanding of the school’s rules.

“In the yard, we have to have safe feet and safe hands so no one gets hurt,” she said.

“You have to keep your hands to yourself.”

However, for the new students it is not all about certain skills, but also learning how to adjust with the change from kindergarten to school.

Becoming more independent, student Isabelle already feels comfortable undertaking tasks by herself.

“I have learnt how to pack and unpack my bag by myself and line up outside the class,” she said.

Breezing through the school term so far, the new students are well on their way to a successful year ahead with plenty of fun and educational activities to look forward to.
