THE opening game of the 2018 season for the women of the Blue Lake Golf Club was the first round of the Summer Trophy.

The event attracted a good field last Wednesday and players enjoyed a well-presented course considering the recent hot weather.

A number of players were able to play under their handicaps, making points allocated for the next few rounds tightly contested.

The Summer Trophy is played over four rounds, with competitors able to discard their worst score from either the single stroke rounds (2) stableford (1) and Par (1) round, with weekly winners issued a sliding scale of points – three, two and one awarded respectively.

The event played was a single format and the winner for Division 1 was vice captain Helen Myers with an impressive nett 65 (28/93), her first time breaking under 100.

Marlene Lingham was runner-up, playing to her handicap of nett 69 (28/97) followed by Captain Sue Agars nett 70 (27/97).

Nearest the pins were awarded to joint winners Josie Ashby and Rose Case.

Division 2 winner Lucy Richards had the score of the day, continuing on from her good form of 2017.

Richards carded nett 64 (34/98) to give her a clean sweep for the top voucher along with the three points to top the leader board for the Summer Trophy.

Vice President Beryl Mahoney came in with a respectable nett 70 (39/109) to receive the runner/up voucher, followed by Carol Megaw nett 71 (33/104).

Unfortunately no Division 2 player was able to hit the green on the par 3 second hole for nearest the pin.

The pro-shot was won by Helen Stratford on the par 3 fifth hole.

The novelty event – most accurate fairway drives – was awarded to Myers (15) in Division 1 and Dianne Allen (12) in Division 2.
