SUMMER FUN: Carers SA Limestone Coast’s Charmaine Slaven joined Headspace Mount Gambier therapeutic youth worker Kym Galluccio, artist Chrissy Pudney and Headspace’s Ashleigh Spillman at the sunny vintage picnic at the Valley Lake.

WARM weather and blue skies made for a perfect setting for Headspace Mount Gambier’s recent Vintage Picnic at the Valley Lake.

As part of the service’s summer holiday activities, Headspace invited guests aged between 18 and 25 to kick-back, relax and create at the unique event.

Guests were welcomed by Headspace staff members Ashleigh Spillman, Kym Galluccio and Peter Ware while Carers SA Limestone Coast’s Charmaine Slaven also popped in for a chat.

Activities included papermaking, a delicious picnic of tasty treats inspired by grandparents, games of bocce and totem tennis.

Artist Chrissy Pudney shared her skills and knowledge with attendees by helping them create their own handmade paper.

She said the warm weather provided the perfect opportunity to bring artistic activities outdoors.

“Papermaking is so much fun because it is really hands-on and easy for all ages to learn and experience,” she said.

“Today we have been playing with different colours and using various materials to decorate.”

With all people across the region welcome to engage in the event, Ms Pudney said the therapeutic activity gave young people a chance to get creative in a relaxed environment.

“I held this workshop for the young carers of the region and it was fantastic which is why we revived it for the Headspace summer program.” She said.”I hope to host numerous workshops across the region while the weather is pleasant.”

Headspace’s summer holiday activities are wrapping up this week.
