A CAREER in creative writing and performance is on the cards for Allendale East Area School Year 12 student Margaux Terek after receiving an impressive ATAR score of 89 yesterday.

Known as a high achiever throughout the community, Ms Terek undertook a heavy load of subjects this year with art, English, general mathematics, agriculture and horticulture and research project.

Placing highest at the Limestone Coast school, she said it has been a stressful and demanding year with projects and personal writing projects keeping her on her toes.

“It was a juggling act at times with several projects due in a week, so it felt pretty good when I read my score this morning and saw that it was all worth it,” she said.

“I was hoping to get around the 90 mark, so I reached my goal.”

Waiting anxiously with her daughter for the clock to tick over to 8.30am yesterday morning, mother Helene Thomas said she knew Margaux was aiming high.

“I knew she would want a high score, she always sets very high standards,” she said.

“She did really well and we are extremely proud of her, she has worked very hard throughout this year.”

Planning on taking a gap year before undertaking a double degree in acting and creative writing at Flinders University in Adelaide, Ms Terek said she was thrilled she will be able to follow through with her course of choice.

“It is something I have always wanted to do, I like the creativity of acting and writing and discovering different characters,” she said.

Using the next year to focus on personal writing projects, Ms Terek said she already has made progress on a novel and several children’s picture books.

“I started the novel when I was around 12 years old and over the years it has manifested,” she said.

“Then there are also around three or four children’s books that I want to get written and illustrated.”

Over the next year, Ms Terek will also undertake an internship with the Ovation Centre of Performing Arts in Mount Gambier.
