Truck show leads to large donation

DONATION: Mount Gambier Family Truck Show event organiser Adam Smith hands over a cheque to ac.care homelessness service program manager Jill Pulleine.

TEARS were flowing at ac.care this week as Mount Gambier man Adam Smith handed over funds raised from the recent Mount Gambier Family Truck Show.

Presenting homelessness service program manager Jill Pulleine with a $4500 cheque to purchase gifts for families in need this Christmas, Mr Smith said he was just grateful he was able to make a difference.

“This is why I do this – to be able to help hundreds of families through this financially difficult time of the year is amazing,” he said.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of the generous community, they are so willing to help out.”

Overwhelmed with the amount raised, Ms Pulleine said children who may never have been gifted a present during the festive season will now be able to enjoy a surprise at Christmas time.

“The money goes a long way in helping families in the community,” she said.

“After last year’s truck convoy we were able to buy so many presents that we held on to some to hand out throughout the whole year for birthdays and other occasions.

“We rely on contributions like this from the community and are so grateful for Adam and his family’s support and choosing us to donate to.”

A total of $1000 was also donated to mental health awareness organisation Ski For Life and $1000 to the Mount Gambier Community Christmas Lunch.
