VIBRANT Teddies to assist children coping with traumatic situations have been generously created by the Penola Cub Scouts and donated to the Mount Gambier Australian Red Cross Blood Service.
The bright toys were made in an effort to comfort and distract those in or recovering from a traumatic situation.
The creation of the teddies was a combined effort between the Penola Terra Rossa Country Women’s Association (CWA) branch and the scout group.
“The trauma teddies were also a significant part of the scouts being awarded a Peace Badge, which acknowledges their involvement within the community,” Penola Cub Scouts leader Ray Clark said.
Terra Rossa CWA branch member Judy Goodes said the scouts were hands-on in the project as they designed their own teddies while members of the CWA stitched them together.
“It was fantastic to see both adults and children contributing to the design of the teddies,” Ms Goodes said.
Australian Red Cross Blood Service South East regional coordintor Greg Baxendale said they were very appreciative of the donation and it was beneficial to see young people getting involved.
“It is fantastic to see children help other children who are going through a traumatic time,” Mr Baxendale said.
The scouts donated seven teddies to the service.
