THE South East Junction has received a boost from the generosity and hard work shown by the Zombie Walk group to raise more than $1800 for the organisation.
With the fundraising efforts and the “gory” walk now complete, Zombie Walk organiser Kylie Bamford visited the South East Junction Mental Health Activity and Resource Centre last week to hand over the welcome donation.
“I am proud of all my team members and volunteers that helped me throughout the year and I am thankful to be able to donate to such a wonderful cause,” Ms Bamford said.
A not-for-profit organisation which assists people battling mental illness, South East Junction coordinator Nel Jans said it was reliant on fundraising and grants to continue to provide its services.
“We are overwhelmed by this enormous result and what all these people have done to fundraise this amount of money – it is much appreciated,” Ms Jans said.
“We are always applying for grants, but having money in our back pocket more or less gives us more room to do things for the community.”
Ms Jans said a portion of the funds would be used to support volunteers who generously donate their time to the organisation.
“We have around 20 volunteers here and it is not always easy to give something back to them for all the time and effort they make,” Ms Jans said.
“We might use a little bit of that money to give something back to them and the rest will be used for activities in the community and for the people who use our service.”
