IT was love at first sight for Ford fanatic Trevor Jones as he first set eyes on his 1972 Ford XA GT Falcon.
“I was looking for a red car, but when I saw this one on a Friday night in an Adelaide showroom I brought it then and there,” he said.
Mr Jones had been in love with the Ford Falcons since he was a teenager and was taken for a ride in one.
“A family friend arrived home with a brand new XA GT and took me for a spin many years ago,” said Mr Jones.
“It just fell in love with it.”
With its rare Calipso Green colour, the car features a 351 cubic inch engine with a 780 Holley carb, four bolt mains D-block and 4V heads and extractors.
The XA is known as the first Ford Falcon that was fully Australian designed and made, giving it significant historical value.
With absolutely no restoration, the Falcon is completely original, and Mr Jones shows it off at show n shines, the Bay to Birdwood Drive and at family’s weddings.
He is a member of the Mount Gambier Veteran and Vintage Car Club, and also owns a 1954 R Type Bentley and a 1978 6XL XC Ford Fairmont.
Mr Jones was an apprentice at Ford in his earlier days, sparking his enthusiasm and extensive love for the brand.
“I love the whole thing, I don’t have a favourite thing, there is just so much to it, so much power,” Mr Jones said.
“It’s just the way it’s shaped it’s beautiful.
“There is nothing else like it.”
