Educator in top job

WELCOME TO OUR WORLD: New MacArthur Park Kindergarten director Sally Gower was welcomed to the Millicent educational facility by students Prudence Johnson, Tilly Facey, Aviyah Schmidt and Sam Lang.

EXPERIENCED educator Sally Gower has been appointed as the acting director of McArthur Park Kindergarten in Millicent for term four.

She left her role as the director of the Wilderness School Early Learning Centre in Adelaide and moved to Millicent last year.

Her husband Ben Gower was appointed as the chief executive of Wattle Range Council and the couple bought a house at Canunda.

They have three adult children – Henry, Sam and Lucy.

Since moving to the area, Ms Gower has obtained employment at schools and kindergartens across the South East region.

Her experience as an early childhood educator dates back to 1990.

“I am passionate about early years education and use a combination of teaching and educational philosophies to create a learning environment that enhances and facilitates each child’s construction of their own learning,” Ms Gower said.

“I believe that young children thrive when given the opportunity to learn through play.

“I provide children with the opportunity to drive their own learning, to become creative and critical thinkers through exposing them to a variety of experiences and materials to explore and engage with.

“Children need the opportunity to inquire and experiment whilst developing their own learning styles.”

According to Ms Gower, her main endeavour is to foster a love of learning in all children.

“My planning and the learning places I create encourage curiosity, a sense of wonder and inquiry-based learning,” she said.

“I believe that children are capable of directing their own learning and will always find provocations for wonder and discovery within their environment”.
