Community funding pool opens

RURAL IMPROVEMENT: Round one of the State Government’s Fund My Neighbourhood scheme has opened, giving South East residents an opportunity to vote for nominated projects to improve communities and townships.

UPGRADES to sporting and community facilities, tourism campaigns and volunteer support services are among projects vying for funding within Grant District Council in round one of the State Government’s $40m Fund My Neighbourhood scheme.

A list of potential projects for the Mount Gambier City Council area has also been released.

Grant District Council has encouraged residents to vote for between three and five projects nominated by the community to improve local townships.

The installation of lights and development of a new training pitch at Casadio Park, construction of a combined barbecue/bar area, female toilets and a change room upgrade at Kongorong Sportsman’s Club and an SA Country Fire Service “support the volunteer” initiative are among the list of nominated projects.

“To vote people need to be 18 years of age or over and must currently live in South Australia,” Mayor Richard Sage said.

“A number of worthy local projects have been nominated and it would be great to see people register to vote and support these projects that will benefit their communities and townships.”

Other ideas put forward by community groups include a campaign to advertise the town of Port MacDonnell, the installation/upgrade of a shower and toilet block at the Kongorong Memorial Hall and a bathroom upgrade at the Mil Lel Memorial Hall.

Voting is now open and closes on November 20 at 5pm.

Visit www.fundmyneighbourhood.yoursay.sa.gov.au to vote for up to five projects.
