Kilsby stays sharp

A SINGLE outdoor round followed a working bee for the Blue Lake Archers Sunday, with Ben Kilsby continuing his good form of late to claim the honours on the day. The morning working bee crossed off a few more items on the clubs maintenance jobs and was followed by a leisurely 90 arrow outdoor round. A welcome addition to the scoring archers list was Phil Tremelling who lodged his first competition score in some time. Tremelling has been working toward a change to a freestyle recurve bow, a discipline he last pursued approximately three decades ago. The World Archery 60/900 that was the round of the day features three ranges of 60, 50 and 40 metres. A benign tail wind did little to disturb the six archers on the main range and the light showers that drifted through the area in the late morning did not reappear during the afternoon event. Kilsby was back on home turf after a successful appearance in last week's State Outdoor Archery Championships. A personal best for the WA 90/1440 gained Kilsby a third place in the Open male compound bow division in the championships. His excellent form flowed into this week's local event as he ended the day with a seven-point winning margin over Graham Lock. COMING EVENTS TOMORROW: Indoor archery at St Martins College Hall from 7.30pm. Sunday: Outdoor archery at Corriedale Park start at 12.30 pm. RESULTS WA 60/900 outdoor round, handicap scored, benchmark 900 points: Ben Kilsby 880 (off-the-bow 855); Graham Lock 873 (830); Garry Jacques 744 (852); Paul Freeman 830 (651); Liam Stevens 812 (636); Phil Tremelling 650 (off-the-bow only).
