TAFE SA hosted the WorldSkills Beauty Competition on Monday with six beauty therapists battling it out in a range of different skill sets.

From eyebrow tinting to make-up and manicures, the girls took the entire day to take part in the regional event.

Event organiser Amanda Brown said the competition ran smoothly and all competing women set the expectations high.

“I think the beauty therapists are working really hard and you can see it in their work,” Ms Brown said.

Some competitors have worked in the industry for years, whereas some are just starting out and took a huge step to showcase their skills.

“It is hard to say to people come and compete with your peers and show everybody your skill level and be okay with that,” Ms Brown explained.

“It’s like opening yourself to the world.”

Despite nerves and the daunting idea of putting their work forward for judging, the women excelled as they took on the challenges.

South East judges Mardi Goodes and Lorraine Stevens said the competition was great for local beauty therapists as it gave them a chance to celebrate the industry as well.

They said the competition was extremely difficult to judge and the final scores were very close.

After a long, hard day, Erin Hudson of Vanity Make-Up and Body Lounge was awarded first place.

“I’ve been in the industry for three years now, it’s still nerve racking but I felt like I’ve done well,” she said.

Coming in second, Demi Carter of Pure Luxe Beauty also felt she had done well and was proud of her achievements.

Ms Carter started her beauty career as a school-based trainee and returned to her passion in November 2015.

Claiming third place was Francesca Bueti from L’amore Beauty.

She said she enjoyed the make-up challenge the most.

Francesca has also been in the industry for three years.

Ms Brown said all therapists did an amazing job and hopes to host the event in the coming years to help those in the industry to grow.

SILVER: Demi Carter finished second after competing in many different fields of the regional WorldSkills Beauty Competition.
