Wine lovers celebrate cabernet

ATTRACTING VISITORS: Hollick Wines Cellar Door supervisor Marion Patterson welcomes locals and visitors to celebrate events offered at their cellar door through out the Cabernet Celebrations.

THE Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations have kicked off in Penola with the renowned strip offering an expansive range of food, wines and events for locals and visitors to indulge in.

The second weekend of celebrations started on the weekend with Hollick Wines hosting Decade of Difference and Soothing Sunday events.

A Decade of Difference allowed wine enthusiasts to compare the 2004 and 2014 cabernet sauvignon, while Soothing Sunday allowed for a relaxing lunch at Upstairs at Hollick while listening to the tunes of South East jazz trio Kalimna.

Digiorgio Family Wines hosted Emporio and All that Jazz, offering a classic blend of merlot jazzed up with cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc.

Brand’s Laira Coonawarra hosted the Blockers Cabernet +2 and All That Jazz, which allowed tasters to see the winery’s newly tweaked label and try Brand’s Laira’s newest additions – Blockers Shiraz and Blockers Chardonnay.

Hollick Wines cellar door sales assistant Amanda Murdoch said the winery was filled with visitors on Saturday who enjoyed tasting through the decades.

“Visitors had referred to the brochure and came specifically for the Decade of Difference event,” Ms Murdoch said.

“We also had wonderful feedback on Soothing Sunday, as they enjoyed jazz trio Kalimna from the James Morrison Academy,” Ms Murdoch said.

“People were very relaxed.”

Visitors traveled to the winery from Adelaide, Melbourne and even Sydney to taste what Coonawarra had on offer.

“It is fantastic the celebrations are now spread over the entire month of October as it offers attendees to experience various events,” Ms Murdoch said.

This weekend will feature the highly anticipated Burgers and Beats event hosted by Brand’s Laira Coonawarra, which will feature entertainment with the band Quietly Krazy.

“Relax on our lawns while listening to the awesome beats and make sure to bring along your family and friends,” Brand’s Laira Coonawarra winemaker Peter Weinberg said.

This event will be held on Saturday from 11am to 4pm with free entry.

Visit coonawarra.org to view all of Coonawarra’s winery events throughout the month or head to one of the wineries to collect a program brochure.
