FLORAL design bloomed throughout the Mount Gambier Showgrounds over the weekend with the tough horticulture competition filled with friendly rivalry.

Committee member Miechel Lusty won three sections of the cultivation section.

“I really just enter the competitions to make sure there are some there, which is why I am across so many areas,” Ms Lusty said.

“This year I won champion for open floral design, reserve iris, rose other than exhibition, various other prizes in number one hall and some other bits and pieces.

“It is all about being creative and just having a go.”

With friendly competition consistent throughout previous horticulture divisions, many competitors have formed strong friendships over the years.

“We have some ongoing components throughout every show, including the iconic blue supreme champion sash,” Ms Lusty said.

“Every year there is always the argument on who will win it within the committee.

“I have never managed to win that one yet, but it is great to see so many new people giving it a go.”

Ms Lusty plans to get out in the sunshine and enter upcoming floral design competitions with gardening her personal de-stressor.
