IT may not be a street party but a free Mount Gambier Fringe Festival event will once again be held.

After the cancellation of the street party last year, festival goers will be excited to know a smaller but similar event will be held next month at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds.

‘Fringeland’ will host a generous range of activities and entertainment for family and friends of all ages in a Covid-19 safe manner.

Marketing and design manager Talie Teakle said it was exciting to be able to host a free family friendly event once again.

“One of the main comments we received after last year was that people missed the street party element,” Ms Teakle said.

“Although we can’t host the street party, we can do the next best thing which is a lift-off event at the showgrounds.”

Working closely with SA Health and the Mount Gambier Showgrounds committee, Ms Teakle said it would be a night to remember for the community.

“We chose the showgrounds because we knew the venue would be able to host a large, Covid-friendly event after the show last year,” she said.

“It is exciting to be able to host a free community event and it will take a lot of work with a lot of volunteers but we are looking forward to it.”

Ms Teakle said volunteers who wished to help with the main event were also welcome to get in touch with the committee and join in.

“We are in need of volunteers because there will be a lot of Covid marshalling that will need to be done,” she said.

“We have put out a callout for helpers and are hoping the community can support us.”

The event will support artists like Peter Combe, theatrical performances, acrobatics and a twilight market

The ‘Fringeland’ event will begin at the Mount Gambier Showgrounds at 4.30pm on Friday, March 25.
