THE work of two of the city’s talented young artists is currently on show in Adelaide as part of a five week celebration of South Australia’s young and emerging artists.

The SACE Art Show exhibition at Light Square Gallery features paintings and drawings, sculptures, jewellery, costumes and multimedia works created by 135 Year 12 students in the visual arts subjects throughout last year.

St Martins Lutheran College graduate Elizabeth le Roux and current student Jackson Archibald were among those selected for the prestigious exhibition, which will run for the next two weeks.

With painting as her ideal technique, Ms Le Roux created the piece titled Ruminate, using water as her inspiration.

“The idea of contemplation was incorporated into my paintings as it created a meaningful message behind it,” she said.

“This allows people to imagine a meaning and reason behind the expression on the subject’s face as it is mysterious as to what she is thinking.”

Creating the piece in only five days, the talented young artist said it was a privilege to see her work displayed among the best in the state.

“The standard was very high and not many were selected, so I feel very grateful for my work to be part of the exhibition,” she said.

“It was a bit of a rush to get this piece done, which makes it even more of a shock to see it up there.”

Taking a different approach to his major project, Mr Archibald used his interest in architecture and a computer program to create a house design.

A challenging learning experience, the current Year 12 student said he did not expect to be selected.

“I did not think my work was good enough to exhibit, but it feels really good knowing the SACE Board has looked through my art and selected it,” he said.

“I had not designed a house before, so a lot of time was put into creating the piece.”

Spending months planning, designing and finally putting the piece into the computer program, Mr Archibald said he learnt a lot in the process.

“Over the past few years I have been considering architecture as a career, so I thought it would be a good idea to give it a go in an art class,” he said.

“Although challenging, I know now that it is something I would like to pursue in the future.

“I hope to study in Adelaide and potentially pair it with engineering, but the design side is more my passion.”

SACE Board of SA chief executive professor Martin Westwell congratulated all exhibiting students.

“Every student exhibiting at the 2018 SACE Art Show has demonstrated why the SACE is a valuable qualification,” he said.

“Through the SACE, these students have developed and applied critical and creative thinking to create an amazing array of art work that is now on display at the art show.”

The exhibition will be on show until April 24.
