STANDING centre-stage amidst the glitter and razzle dazzle of one of Australia’s most successful homegrown musicals is Millicent’s own Euan Doidge.
The 24-year-old has been “shaking his groove thing” and stealing hearts across the country as Felicia in Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Premiering in January, the musical returned to the stage as part of its 10th anniversary celebration tour.
Doidge rehearsed for only around a month in the lead-up to the opening night with a few preview performances before the premiere.
“Some people think that is a short time-frame,” he said.
“But, for this show and with the team we had putting it together, we were all very confident that we would have plenty of time.”
Frocking up as Felicia, Doidge’s busy schedule sees him perform in eight shows a week – from Tuesday to Sunday.
He said he is blessed with constant work and to share the stage with “some pretty amazing people”.
“The friends I have made are lifelong friends and that to me is very special in an industry such as this one,” he said.
“It can be tough at times because the work we do is not easy.
“The appreciation we get from the audiences is the most rewarding experience anyone could ever ask for.”
As part of the job, Doidge also gets to see and do a lot of “incredible things”.
“Events and red carpets are super, super exciting,” he said.
He added the televised Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight would be one of the highlights of his career.
Doidge also has the opportunity to meet many celebrities and television personalities through his work, which he describes as
“pretty cool”, especially coming from a small town like Millicent.
Priscilla Queen of the Desert will wrap up its tours and close its curtains in September.
