LOVE is in the air for all on February 14 – not just for the romantic celebrating Valentine’s Day, but also for those celebrating National Library Lovers’ Day across Australia.

Library Lovers’ Day is a chance for local library lovers to celebrate everything that libraries offer the community, whether it be a social place to visit, a chance to escape within a great book, children’s rhymes and stories or hilarious author visits.

“Libraries have evolved into community centres, they are social places to meet, collaborate, research, learn, share and relax, so there is certainly a great deal to celebrate,” Mount Gambier Library community engagement coordinator Kristi Leamey said.

For the week leading into Library Lovers’ Day, community members who visit the library have the opportunity to take home a “blind date”.

“Carefully selected books from genres such as travel to romance and family sagas to true crime have been wrapped appropriately for the occasion,” Ms Leamey said.

“Although they hold a cryptic clue to disclose their identity on the wrapping, they will remain a ‘blind date’ until borrowers unwrap them at home and experience reading a book or genre they may not instantly have picked themselves.”

Hidden in a selection of “blind dates” are “love letters” from prominent Australian authors who have detailed how they hold libraries in a special place in their heart.

“If you find a ‘love letter’ you will go into the draw to win a $150 voucher for Commodore on the Park, with indulgent chocolate packs up for grabs as second and third prizes,” Ms Leamey said.

“The more ‘love letters’ you find, the better chance you have to win.”

The competition closes on February 16 at 5pm.
