KALANGADOO 56 d MOUNT BURR 36
WHILE Kalangadoo claimed a comfortable victory over Mount Burr in Round 12 of Mid South East netball on Saturday, a highlight was Heidi Clark playing her 100th game for the Mozzies.
In adverse conditions, the game started with both sides working hard in attack to feed the circle.
Kalangadoo made the most of turnovers and scoring opportunities as Jane Auld and Jade Peacock fed the goalies with accuracy to build a five-goal lead at the first break.
Kalangadoo continued in the second term, with Peacock dominating through the centre.
Heidi Clark applied pressure to Abby Duncan, forcing her wide for shots.
Clark took numerous turnovers, but Mount Burr found it difficult to penetrate the zone defence of Kalangadoo, while Melissa Russell was the focal point in the Magpies’ circle.
Kalangadoo extended its lead to 10 by half time.
As the second half progressed, the Magpies built on their lead, with Russell shooting at 100pc in the third term to stretch the lead out to 14.
that was again extended in the final stanza as Kalangadoo claimed a strong 20-goal victory.
HATHERLEIGH 62 d ROBE 52
Hatherleigh had to work a bit harder for its win, but still claimed the honours on its home court by 10 goals overs Robe.
The home side welcomed Keston Green back for her third game for the season.
Robe turned over Hatherleigh’s first centre pass and capitalised on their own to go three goals up early.
Hatherleigh took a while to settle into its new lineup at the attacking end, but Maddie Pulmer helped her side with a few early turn overs in defence.
Robe’s attack was on target, as Tori Gluyas and Sarah Laurie found good space, which both sides locked together at the first break.
The second quarter saw strong defensive pressure from the home side to cause errors for Robe coming out of defence.
An ankle injury to Sarah Broadhead mid way through the quarter saw Chelsea Galpin come into the game at goal keeper, with Hatherleigh up by 10 goals at the main break.
From there it was a tight game, as the weather was not conducive for highly-skilled netball.
However, the intent did not wane and the game was played out with plenty of pressure from both sides.
In the end it was a strong second quarter which helped Hatherleigh claim the win, with accurate shooting from all four goalies a highlight.
NANGWARRY 64 d KONGORONG 46
Nangwarry chalked up a strong win over Kongorong, with both sides boasting new lineups due to injury concerns and unavailability.
The Saints started strong but could not capitalise, which gave Kongorong the first three goals of the game.
From there Nangwarry started to settle, with Cassie Dinnison and Angela Pratt both positioning well in goals.
Dinnison and Kylie Heaver were able to feed Pratt with pinpoint accuracy and Pratt finished off well, as Nangwarry went to the first break with a handy 17-9 advantage.
The Saints continued is strong performance after the break, as Hayley Burner and Hayley Vanderhorst combined in defence to make it hard for the Kongorong shooters and their feeders to to deliver the ball.
Tori McIntyre provided a strong presence for Kongorong and had a good tussle with Nangwarry’s Ebony Lawson.
Nangwarry extended its lead to 13 at the main break.
Kongorong made changes at the break and it seemed to settle the side more, but the Saints maintained their advantage, with Dinnison setting up her shooters well.
At the other end, Tilah Buckingham lifted for the Hawks and shot at a high accuracy.
When Burner had a fall and left the court under the blood rule, Kongrong tried to take advantage, but Nangwarry continued to score from its own centre passes until she returned.
By the final break the Saints held a 15-goal lead and pushed hard to stretch that margin in the last quarter to claim a strong victory.
TANTANOOLA 42 d GLENCOE 33
Tantnaoola claimed a win over Glencoe, but had to fight for every goal.
The Tigers started the game well, with the defensive combination of Tayla Rowe and Kate Bromley causing some early turnovers.
At the other end, the Glencoe defenders made the most of any rebounding opportunities and Rebecca Edwards drove down court to clear the ball.
An even scuffle ended the quarter with Tantanoola up by one goal to set the scene
Tantanoola lifted the intensity and defensive pressure in the second term, as Vic Lucas took control of the mid-court with her consistent play and accurate passing into goalies Jami Walker and Emma Gould.
The result saw the Tigers pull away with a handy seven-goal advantage at the main break.
Glencoe then turned the table in the third term, with the whole side lifting to stop the Tigers in their tracks.
Strong defensive work and pressure by Sarah Edwards, Emily Thompson and Rebecca Edwards made it hard for Tantanoola to break through and Glencoe closed the gap to just a couple goals within a few minutes.
Tantanoola’s saving grace was Gould, who stood tall and shot with accuracy to miss just one goal for the quarter and not allow the Murphies to take the lead.
However, Glencoe closed the margin to just four goals at the final break to set up a scintillating final quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Tigers respond, with sisters Vic and Alex Lucas working hard to block Donna Jaeschke and Ashlea Edwards’ drive into attack.
Tantanoola transitioned the ball well into attack and Gould finished off with accuracy, shooting 10 for the quarter, which saw the Tigers claim a hard-fought nine-goal victory.
