GLENCOE 48 d PORT MACDONNELL 25

GLENCOE showed its strength in the A Grade Mid South East netball clash on Saturday, with a solid victory over Port MacDonnell down at the Bay.

However, the 23-goal final margin belied the closeness of the contest early, as the two sides went goal-for-goal for much of the opening term.

The Murphies held a slender three-goal advantage at the first break, thanks in part to the work of goal shooter Caitlin Hentschke, who scored all 12 goals for the quarter and proved a handful for the Demons’ defenders.

Hentschke continued her strong work around the goal ring and in the third term shot all 10 of Glencoe’s goals, with Port MacDonnell only able to add seven.

The Murphies did not rest on their laurels and dominated the final term 16 goals to three.

The battle in the centre between Demons’ Michelle Moore and Glencoe’s Donna Jaescke was a highlight of the game.

On the day Lisa McGregor played her 200th game for the club.

MOUNT BURR 71 d KONGORONG10

It was a huge result for Mount Burr over Kongorong, with the Hawks unable to make any headway.

Both teams made early mistakes, but Mount Burr’s Ebony Clark continued her good form and made the most of her scoring opportunities.

Likewise the Mount Burr defence worked hard to create turnovers, but led by just seven at the first break.

From there the Mozzies lifted the intensity, as Clark and Sarah Nulty continued to reward the defensive effort with shooting accuracy.

Madi Haggett and Heidi Clark were almost impenetrable in defence for the Mozzies, which was reflected in the score.

A 31-7 margin favoured the Mozzies at the main break and they went on a scoring spree after the break.

By the final break Kongorong’s spirit had been broken and the Mozzies ran out comfortable victors.

TANTANOOLA 62 d ROBE 55

Robe put up a strong fight against Tantanoola, but succumbed to the pressure to go down by seven goals.

Robe took the upper hand with the first goal of the game off a Tantanoola centre pass, but the Roosters were soon back on track and by the first break led by three.

Both sides came out firing in the second quarter with both sides work rates lifting.

Tantanoola’s Emma Gould found her range in the goal circle and shot 14 for the quarter with some accurate feeds from Casey Walker and Victoria Lucas.

At the other end Sarah Laurie was able to find some space and shot accurately to keep her side in the contest.

While the Tigers increased their lead to five at the half, the Roosters were right in the contest.

Tantanoola’s defence lifted in the third term, with Georgia Clarke and Kate Bromley combining well to claim a couple of turnovers which were converted at the other end.

Robe lifted its defensive intensity through Georgia Perkins and Alanna Campbell and made Casey and Jami Walker work hard for every possession.

The margin remained at five goals at the final break, with an enticing final term set.

Robe threw everything into the last quarter, putting their bodies on the line, but Tantanoola kept its composure and worked the ball down court with patience and precision passing.

In the end the Tigers were able to pull away and claim the seven-goal victory in an exciting clash.

HATHERLEIGH 86 d NANGWARRY 30

Nangwarry struggled under the pressure from Hatherleigh despite an even first few minutes.

Lacey Haines took a couple minutes to warm up with good defensive pressure from Hayley Vanderhorst and Carly Ploenges.

With Cassie Dinnison absent, Kylie Heaver was back in goals but plenty of rebound opportunities slipped away from the Saints in the last half of the quarter to leave them 14 down at quarter time.

Hatherleigh came out strong in the second term and picked up its defensive pressure all over the court, with many intercepts converted.

Despite the early pressure, the Saints fought back with their biggest quarter of 13 goals, 10 of those from the hand of Ange Ploenges.

Hayley Burner had taken over as Nangwarry’s coach for the day in Dinnison’s absence and was a clear leader for the Saints.

However, the Saints struggled to keep up with a strong-performing Hatherleigh, as the Eagles claimed a 56-goal victory.
