Final round to Harvey

THE final round of the Summer Salver – which was postponed from February 17 due to extreme heat conditions – was played in a stroke format last Wednesday at the Mount Gambier Golf Club.

Scores from the previous rounds of stroke, par and stableford held earlier this year were included to determine the overall winner who will be presented with her trophy donated by life member, Isobel Phillips in the near future.

Denise Harvey produced a great score of 91 off the stick to win with a nett 69 for the final round.

Harvey played the back nine first and dropped three shots, but on the front nine she took control, including a birdie on the third hole and finished the last two holes with pars.

Betty McKechnie played a steady round, three under at the turn, before finishing with 97/nett 71 to take the runner-up prize.

In third place was the consistent Bev Pedlar with a credible 93/nett 74.

The pro shot on the eighth hole went to Jane Lamont who scored a birdie for her efforts.

The second shot on the long par five first hole was won by Jennifer Van Ritjhoven in A Grade, Jennette Braun B Grade and Donna Jennings in C Grade.

Ball run down winners were Faye Mainwaring and Marie Douglas 75, Sue Downs, Chris Galpin and Carol Davis 76, Janina Morrison and Jennette Braun, both 77.

This week will see players vie for the McKechnie/Stratford trophy in a par format.

Only a small field of 13 played a stroke round on Saturday.

McKechnie carried on from where she left off on Wednesday to take home the winner’s prize finishing with nett 73.

Maxine McGregor was runner-up with nett 76 and Di O’Donnell, Heather Chapman, both nett 78 and Kerry Pedlar, nett 79 were the ball rundown winners.

Sharran Waters was the most accurate on the eighth hole, while Chris Morrison was nearest the pin on the 16th.
