Visitors take honours

VISITING clubs proved too strong in the Penola Bowls Club’s Invitation Fours last week.

Mount Gambier Club members Jeff England, Bob Cranwell, Darryl Raneberg and Eddie Smith claimed the win, ahead of a Kingston side, with Lucindale in third place.

On Friday the Penola women’s Division 3 were the only winners in the first semi-final, defeating Robe by 17 shots 55-38.

Division 1 lost to Mount Gambier RSL Red by 30 shots 26-56 and Division 2 went down narrowly to Robe by four shots.

Saturday the Open Division 4 side lost to Kalangadoo by 27 shots 54-81 and will now play Frances in preliminary final at Naracoorte.

The women’s Division 3 side will travel to Port MacDonnell today to play Mount Gambier in the preliminary final.

In coming events the Betty Copping Memorial Veterans Singles and Men’s Veterans Singles competitions will be played on March 17 at 9am and Honour Board Mixed Pairs will played on March 20 at 9am.
