Stars align for fundraiser

THE stars have finally aligned for the Stand Like Stone’s annual charity fundraiser, which will swing into action at The Barn on June 19.

After the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of last year’s event, Swinging with the Stars will return with gusto, raising vital funds to support community grants and scholarships across the Limestone Coast.

Five stars have remained ‘on ice’ since last year’s cancellation and will be joined by two newcomers, with tone spot left to be filled.

Kim Cella and the Hype Dance team will prepare the regional celebrities for their dancing duties.

Stand Like Stone Foundation chief executive Anne Kerr was thrilled the majority of stars – who were unable to fulfil their dancing and fundraising commitments last year – have returned.

“Our stars really are amazing – they’re all so passionate about raising funds and awareness for Stand Like Stone, as well as learning how to bust a move or two and have some fun on the dancefloor,” Ms Kerr said.

“Not only do our stars have a lot of fun raising money for Stand Like Stone Foundation, but they do so knowing that the money they raise will have a positive and lasting impact for the people of the Limestone Coast community, through the grants and educational scholarships provided by the foundation”.

MEET THE STARS

BRYCE SMITH – A 2020 star, the Kingston PE and math teacher is ready to go outside his comfort zone and show his students he has the moves like Jagger.

PETER LORING – Another 2020 star and Bricks & Mortar Coffee Co ‘coffee guy’, Peter may know how to create the perfect brew but can he improve his ‘dad dancing’ enough to win the prize?

STEPHEN HOLMES – While he may be more comfortable working in the earth moving industry, 2020 star Stephen will definitely be working his moves on the dancefloor by June.

CAROLINE BARR – The self-confessed crazy cat lady is back for 2021. She loves crystals and Pilates, but will they be enough to help her channel her inner Shakira and bring home the title this year?

RANDALL JONES – Port MacDonnell’s own Fred Astaire and 2020 dancer, Randall will swap the beach for the dance studio as he raises money for his community.

MARIAN HODSON – The Grant High School teacher will become the student once again as she studies dancing and learns to jive.

KATE PALM – This well-travelled star will trade holidays, event planning, farming and cellar door sales for waltzing as she raises money for her community.

Organisers are on the search for another star after 2020 recruit Holly Hannaford – who represents the Naracoorte and Lucindale district – was forced to withdraw due to injury.

Ms Kerr said with reduced numbers for this year’s event, organisers were expecting a sell out.

Tickets go on sale in May from Chapman’s Newsagency, Mount Gambier.
