PREMIUM quality shines in the newly-released 2019 Volkswagen Touareg Launch Edition now sharing the same platforms as its luxury European rivals.

With a completely restyled design, the stylish SUV features perfect proportions, smooth contours and purposeful elements for maximum visual and practical impact.

The vehicle is considerably wider and longer than its predecessor but is nevertheless lighter, offering a sleek combination of aluminium and high-tech steel in construction.

Barry Maney Ford Volkswagen sales manager Nathan Lewis said the ride quality allows for comfort on the open Limestone Coast roads.

“Although the vehicle is a larger SUV, it feels like you are sitting behind the wheel of a small sportier car,” he said.

“The vehicle’s 3.0L turbocharged TDI engine is capable of providing 190kW of power and 600Nm of torque which is on par with our top of the range Amarok.

“You can feel it wanting to go as soon as you put your foot on the pedal.”

The model’s styling and broad stance are clear indications the vehicle has been designed to be driven and enjoyed.

Its potent power is transferred to the road with an efficient eight-speed automatic gearbox, which provides seamless shifts under acceleration and deceleration.

Mr Lewis said the vehicle’s interior is the highest quality he has seen in all Volkswagen vehicles.

“I would recommend the class-leading Touareg to a family, retiree or just somebody who is wishing to trip around Australia in space and comfort,” he said.

“The vehicle has an impressive towing capacity is 750kg for an unbraked trailer and 3500kg braked which is ideal for travelers with caravans or those wishing to tow trailers or boats.

“There is an excessive amount of cabin space, equal to 1800 litres of boot space with rear seats folded or 810 litres with rear seats upright.”

The Touareg Launch Edition’s front seats have been designed to provide maximum comfort and can be electrically adjusted 18 ways.

Mr Lewis said the vehicle is the “perfect match” for tech-savy stylists.

It features a 9.2-inch Discover Pro navigation system with gesture control, voice control and app-connect technology, adaptive cruise control, driver fatigue detection, park assist, rear view camera and parking sensors, front cross traffic assist, lane assist and much more.

A 12.3-inch active information display takes place of a traditional instrument cluster offering customisable features for the driver to add their own personal touch.

Keyless access and start are also an attractive feature as well as the IQ Light Matrix LED headlights – a first for Volkswagen.

Mr Lewis said the fuel consumption sits at a competitive 7.4L/100km leading for its class.

“It is a heavy vehicle at the end of the day and the fuel consumption is proven economical and affordable,” he said.

“From what we have already seen, we are excited to see what other variations of the vehicle will arrive.”
